The Putnam County Board of Commissioners has launched a new discount card program to help citizens cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county is making free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers savings on an average of 24% off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. A national network of more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies also will honor the NACo prescription discount card. There is no cost to county taxpayers for NACo and Putnam County to make these money saving cards available to residents. Simply present your card at a participating retail pharmacy and save an average of 24% on your prescription medicine. Finding a pharmacy is easy; 9 out of 10 pharmacies nationwide accept your discount card. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee, and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance. Discount cards may be obtained at the Putnam County Administration Building, the Putnam County Courthouse and all other county department offices. They may also be obtained from local pharmacies and doctor's offices. Please note: This plan is not insurance, and savings are only available at participating pharmacies. For more information, access the Caremark website to look up a participating pharmacy, a price estimate for your prescription, check drug interactions, or read news articles from leading health journals.
