Nathan Mason, Director of Putnam County EMS in Eatonton, Georgia completed the year-long 2013 Georgia EMS Directors Leadership course on November 7, 2013 in a ceremony in Statesboro, Georgia.
Four, week-long modules were conducted at different locations across the state: Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA in March; Macon, GA in May; Gainesville, GA in August; and again at Georgia Southern University in November. In addition to presentations by state level public and community health officials; students attended workshops and lectures led by a variety of subject matter experts as well as tours of the Medical Center of Central Georgia and the Northeast Georgia Health Systems campus. Online discussion groups and training between sessions supplemented classroom activities. Students who complete the course are eligible to participate in an alumni group which aims to provide continuing leadership development for EMS directors and management.
The EMS Directors Leadership course is an innovative project in its second year of development. The application period for the 2014 course will be announced in January, 2014. The program is sponsored by the Georgia Trauma Commission and the Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services (GAEMS.)
